Description

Black Cherry is a tree or shrub. It prefers moist, deep, fertile soils but will tolerate dry and sandy soils. It can be grown in full sun or partial shade and will tolerate both alkaline and acidic soils. It will tolerate both drought and salt but will not tolerate full shade. Birds, squirrel, deer, raccoon, black bear, ruffed grouse, oppossum, and turkey are among the animals that will eat the fruit of the black cherry. The bark, leaves and twigs, of this tree is poisonous to livestock but deer can eat the leaves without harm.
